Phil's World Tour 2002

Most of us dream at some point in our lives of travelling around the world. In early 2002 I was one of the lucky ones who was actually able to achieve the dream. It was something I had first considered about 10 years before but, like most of us, it was clearly impracticable: mortgage, loans, job, etc. However in early 2001 I realised that my current life circumstances meant that if I was ever going to do it there would never be a better chance.

One of the advantages that I now had over 10 years before was the advent of the internet and e-mail. E-mail meant that I could stay in contact with my friends and family as I travelled. There was a consensus that the e-mails ought to be put together in some form. So here they are. They are exactly as written with all the typos and over exuberant punctuation.

Although at the same time I was writing a daily log of my experiences I had great intentions of transcribing it for here later but never did.

I hope these writings convey at least some of the vast enjoyment and sense of satisfaction and achievement I gained from the trip. If nothing else they at least provide a record of the event.

The photographs are just a minor subset of the 2500+ pictures I actually took, along with 20+ hours of video.

We are all capable of more than we believe.

Phil
